Habitational name for someone from Craigie in Kyle, named with Gaelic creag, 'precipitous rock'. Black records that in 1272 the church of Cragyn 'was confirmed to the monks of Paisley by Thomas de Cragyn, son and heir of John Hose, who had assumed his surname from his lands'.
Craig farms over a 1000 blackface sheep on the shores of Loch Gruinart, the sheep graze on high hill, coastal machair and saltmarsh shore producing fantastic flavours. When Craig is not busy with his sheep he tends his oyster beds in the Loch.
Points of Interest:
3000 barnacle geese overwinter on the farm, being the main roost site for Barnacle Geese. There are also Chough and Corncrakes on the farm.
